> Check out my melons!
Posted by The McGuires - 10-26-08 12:01 - 0 comments
I went outside today to do some monthly maintenance and as I walked around to pull some weeds and investigate some new animal footprints in the slurry of topsoil David Weelkey calles “loam”, I noticed a little green ball. Much to my surprise it’s watermelon? Or at least Kiwe and I think it is.

I count 10 or so of them on the vine so far and even saw a little lady bug doing her thing. I have no idea if this is watermelon season or how this plant got here but HERE IT IS!

I rigged up some drip irrigation which I extended from an already existing system which I put in use for my Bonsai Collection and I guess we’ll put some water on it and see what they do.

I’ll check in on them in a week or so and compare to the photos below. Who would of thought we may be eating watermelon in the winter!

> Williamson County Mapping System!
Posted by The McGuires - 10-24-08 18:32 - 0 comments
I spoke with a neighbor tonight and he pointed me to a fantastic resource. It's a mapping system for Williamson County. Most of our streets are on the map and you can get a very good overview of how the the whole area is laid out.

Check it out!

Hi everyone,
We are Dwayne and Celeste Havis, soon to be new residents at Walsh Trails!! We just signed a contract today on a Gehan Kennedy home at 515 Williams Way. If all goes well, construction should start within a couple of months and we'll be in sometime mid-spring 2009! We are newlyweds (married one week ago!), professionals in our 40's (well, Celeste almost 40's), with no kids.

We're very excited to get moved over there and we look forward to meeting all of you in the areas that are already developed. Our email is celestelunceford@austin.rr.com. Feel free to drop us a note!

See you soon!
Celeste and Dwayne

> Dazed humming bird.
Posted by The McGuires - 06-23-08 15:49 - 0 comments
This poor little humming bird crashed into one of our windows and I tracked him down outside where I found him taking a rest on a deck railing. I'm guessing it's a male humming bird because of his pretty colors.

We also have a bright red Cardinal which we have named 'Basher' that visits us all day by slamming into the windows. He starts around 5am - 6am and makes quick dive bombs throughout the day. I'm hoping to get a photo of Basher soon.

> Burst water pipe at 614 Walsh Hill Trail
Posted by The McGuires - 06-12-08 10:26 - 0 comments

So yesterday morning I noticed that the water pressure in our house had increased just a tiny bit. I could hear it when the toilet was refilling. It sounded much louder and our shower had just a bit more pressure.

We left for a late lunch and ran some errands and as we were driving up the hill to our house we saw a huge water geiser from a pipe that had burst.

Later that night we had our own water pipe burst just near the junction where the sprinker system was tied in. Choate Irrigation was nice enough to come out and fix it for us.

We've been busy doing upgrades to our new home and have several good references for vendors that we have worked with whom have provided us with satisfactory results.

Also, if anyone want's a quick how-to on putting down a nice show room epoxy finish on their garage floor, give me a shout.

We have a good water softener company, gutter company, and finish carpenter referral.

This street guide shows a list of some of the name changes our streets are going through! There isn't much mention of the streets near Walsh Trails but this stuff is good to know none the less!

Thank you John Paul Porter of the Dignified Dwellings Team

> Front yard fun!

I spent some time today doing a mock up of what we may do to our front yard. I took the original photo into Photoshop and you can see what was added. What do you think? See any problems with the idea of a wall in the front yard?

> The new road.
Posted by The McGuires - 02-6-08 13:06 - 0 comments
Somehow we accidentally ended up on the new roads being built at the top of Walsh Hill Trail. We were surprised to find so many calcite crystal geodes and little shell fossils. The land has been all but obliterated and it will be interesting to see development progress.

This raises a few questions for us of course. Mainly will the big trucks be rolling up the hill via Walsh Hill Trail or will they be entering through a new rear entrance? I haven’t seen the road maps which would lend me logical speculation as to what will happen.

I can say that it would ‘blow’ to have trucks steaming up the main drag of Walsh Trails at sunrise.

> Should the Walshtrails website be private?

It occured to me that perhaps the website should be for community residents only? Does this make sense? I can see pro's and con's for each side of the issue but thought that I would make a poll. Please login and vote! It's your duty!

> Internet Service Providers
Posted by KeyserFamily - 01-13-08 15:14 - 0 comments
Greetings!

We will be moving into Walsh Trails in a couple of months. Are there any DSL providers in the neighborhood yet, or is Time Warner the only option for broadband?

Thanks!
Doug Keyser
